Hockey Nets – Why Having a Net at Home Could Help Your Son Or Daughter Dominate the Game

Does your son or daughter play hockey? Do you have a hockey net at home? If you answered no to the second question, then your child is at a huge disadvantage to the kids who have nets. Whether it be in the driveway, the garage or on the street, practicing shooting at home is an amazingly effective way of improving your game. If your son or daughter doesn’t have anything to shoot at, they’re missing out big time.

Joe Sakic of the Colorado Avalanche is widely regarded as having the best wrist shot in the National Hockey League. It’s also widely known that Joe Sakic had a shooting gallery in the basement of his house. An area set up where he could fire off as many pucks as he wanted. Sakic would spend hours a day doing nothing but shooting pucks, and it was invaluable in his shot development.

If you don’t have a net, get one. If you do have one, take a look at it and see if it’s up to the task. Your son or daughter should be able to shoot full-weight rubber pucks at their net. If the net is made of cheap PVC, it might be time to think about upgrading to a heavier steel net that can stand up to the abuse of serious practice.

You should try to give your kids every advantage possible when it comes to their training. Don’t ever force them into training or practice at home that they don’t want to do, but give them the option. Most kids who love hockey will shoot for hours if given a stick, a net and a bucket of pucks. It’s enjoyable, and it’s a great way to develop a strong and accurate shot. So if your son or daughter doesn’t have that training advantage, head to the store right away!
